Mocha Granita: an easy Thermomix recipe

Inspiration: this relatively low-fat version of a creamy, chocolaty, coffee treat is inspired by what I usually have at hand and by my own flavor preferences. I like things cold, chocolaty, and with a not-too-sweet coffee base. Simple as that. When Thermomix first arrived I began a habit of pouring the morning’s unserved coffee into ice cube trays. Readily available coffee ice cubes are so ‘appropriate’ on a hot day. Perfect time for this recipe is at about 11am, 2pm, or 3pm — just as you’re feeling the need for a spontaneous chilled caffeine treat and Thermomix starts to get fidgety between meals.
Because the recipe contains some cream it’s not a sorbet. But nor is it creamy enough to be a sherbet. Because it’s light, not too sweet, and relies more on the essences of coffee and chocolate for flavor — consider it a granita. You may prefer adding a little more sugar than I do. Feel free to add more cream too, and your own personal flavorings…

Mocha Granita
100 gr. sugar
10 gr. chocolate powder (unsweetened)
600 g. coffee ice cubes made from good strong coffee
100 g. cream ( I use light cream, but use whatever is at hand)
1 egg white
- Put sugar and chocolate powder into Thermomix bowl and mill for 10 seconds on speed 9.
- Add coffee cubes, egg white, and cream. Set timer for one minute and very gradually, increase to speed 10. Keep spatula at hand and stir during the last 20 seconds or so. Serve immediately, or return to freezer for a few minutes to harden before serving.

With the weather starting to get quite warm in Australia this is just the thing for a hot summers day. Wayne will love this as he loves anything “coffee”. Thanks Helene
